Katharine and Nic’s Wedding – Stowe, Vermont

August 4th, 2010

I will probably get the details wrong, but Katharine and Nic’s courtship is a great love story.  The short short version: Nic is from South Africa and met Katharine briefly in Cambridge, Mass. while competing in the Head Of The Charles Regatta.  Nic was so taken by Katherine that he wrote her a love letter from South Africa when he returned.  Katharine was flattered but wrote back saying that she did not think it could work due to the distance, but that anything was possible – and the rest is history!  What a great lesson in both going after what you want in life and being open minded to all possibilities.

The ceremony was held at the Blessed Sacrament Church in Stowe, Vermont.  Katharine and Nic were surprised with serenade of Vuvuzelas upon their exit from the church.

After the ceremony, we did some portraits in downtown Stowe before heading up to the reception at Edson Hill Manor.

The reception started off with a lovely two hour “cocktail hour” complete with a raw bar.  If I am invited to a wedding as a guest, I can generally be found at the raw bar until my wife pulls me away.  In this case since I was hired to photograph, I took some photos of the oysters before helping myself to a few plates.

Due to some unfortunate circumstances, Nic’s parents were unable to attend the wedding.  I always try to get a collection of images that will make everyone that was at the wedding feel like they are re-living the experience.  I hope that Nic’s parents will be able to experience something of the wedding day when they see these.

Caitlin & Matt’s Wedding – The Ponds at Bolton Valley, Vermont

July 23rd, 2009

After a week of vacation in Maine with my wife Leah and her family, I headed up to Vermont to photograph Caitlin and Matt’s wedding at The Ponds at Bolton Valley.  The weather forecast was ominous, but I don’t recall hearing a single complaint and I am not finding a single picture in my edit in which Caitlin is not smiling.

I photographed Kristen and Greg’s wedding two years ago (the couple on the right of the shot above).  Caitlin is Greg’s younger sister, and Kristen introduced Caitlin to Matt.  I received the highest compliment I can imagine when Greg and Caitlin’s mother Kathy called me up right after Caitlin and Matt got engaged.  Kathy was trying to decide on a date for the wedding and wanted to make sure I was available to photograph it!  It is a great honor to me that the Connollys will have my photographs like the one above on their walls from two weddings – I like to think of the children and grandchildren that will see them, and stories that will be told.  That is what motivates me to do what I do.

It was a good thing that we did all of the family and bridal party group pictures before the ceremony, because a very strong storm blew in.  You can see that the smile is still there on Caitlin’s face when the storm arrives though.  For the next three hours it poured rain!

Mia and Adam’s Wedding – Grand Isle Lake House, Grand Isle, Vermont

July 3rd, 2009

Mia and Adam tied the knot at the Grand Isle Lake House in Grand Isle, Vermont.  It was an overcast day but fortunately it stayed dry, and the sun made a brief appearance right before the ceremony.  Mia and Adam met each other before the ceremony – some couples do not like to do this, but I think this moment can be more enjoyable before the wedding when there are not so many people around.

My trip to Vermont reminded me how beautiful it is there!  Everything was so green.  I am told that Mia and Adam’s wedding day was the only day it has not rained on the east coast for the last several months though.

This was the first time I have been to the Grand Isle Lake House, but it is definitely one of my favorite wedding venues in Vermont.  The house has a huge porch that can accommodate many guests for dinner and also a wedding ceremony in case of rain.  The wedding coordinator at the Lake House, Susan Bumbeck, also does a fantastic job taking care of details and making sure everything goes smoothly.  I really enjoyed the music from the Pine Street Jazz Band with Taryn Noelle on vocals – they were fantastic.
