Jenny and Jake celebrated their wedding with friends and family in the beautiful mountain setting of Sundance Resort at the base of Mount Timpanogas in Utah. We started pictures early so that we had time to ride the chairlift up the mountain to enjoy the views.

Leah and I made a trip out to Capitol Reef National Park a couple of weekends ago for some camping and hiking. Capitol Reef is beautiful and uncrowded compared to many of the other national parks in Utah. I found myself seeing a lot of panoramic pictures, and I loved all of the contrasting colors of different types of sandstone. I am on my way back to the southern Utah desert today to photograph a wedding in Moab.
I thought I had seen some great locations for weddings this year after trips to Jamaica and an 11th century English church, but the setting for Kait and Chad’s wedding at The Castle in the Clouds was just as spectacular – complete with fairy tale light. The “castle” built between 1913-1914 in the arts and crafts style upon a mountain with a gorgeous view of Lake Winnipesaukee, but the square footage of interior living space is actually modest compared to some of todays McMansions. I loved the way Kait integrated photographs of family and friends into the details – from the locket picture of her grandmother on her bouquet to the prints in mason jars decorating the bar at the reception.

Every time I try to take pictures of Jennie and Jason together, it rains. It rained on their engagement session near their home in Heber, it rained (with some hail and lightning!) on their first look up on Guardsman’s Pass, and just when we thought it was safe about an hour later at the Silver Lake Lodge, it rained again. Jennie and Jason were not phased at all though, and I love shooting in stormy light as long as I am staying somewhat dry. It was a little bit too wet to have the ceremony out on the grass, but the upper level of the Silver Lake Lodge at Deer Valley Resort is a beautiful alternate location for a wedding ceremony.
