Looking For Andy – San Francisco, California

December 5th, 2011

I went to visit my friend Jim in San Francisco a few weekends ago. On Sunday it was pouring rain New England style, so we decided to go on a minor adventure to find some Andy Goldsworthy installations in the woods of the Presido called Spire and Wood Line. Spire turned out to be hard to miss, but finding Wood Line took a few attempts of walking off trail into the woods based on the vague directions. The sun came out on queue when we found Wood Line without any kind of marking or fanfare. I like to think that Andy would have wanted us to have to wander around the woods a little before we were able to find it. Andy Goldsworthy creates installations in nature and using natural materials. The documentary Rivers and Tides is a great introduction to his work and is one of my favorite films.

Capitol Reef Widescreen

October 20th, 2011

Leah and I made a trip out to Capitol Reef National Park a couple of weekends ago for some camping and hiking. Capitol Reef is beautiful and uncrowded compared to many of the other national parks in Utah. I found myself seeing a lot of panoramic pictures, and I loved all of the contrasting colors of different types of sandstone. I am on my way back to the southern Utah desert today to photograph a wedding in Moab.

It rained all day on my birthday in Ogunquit, Maine a few weeks ago, but I love taking pictures in the rain.

Leaving the Pelican Bar, Treasure Beach, Jamaica

May 12th, 2011

Leah and I went out to have some drinks at the Pelican Bar, which was built right in the water on top of a sand bar by a Jamaican fisherman. It is only accessible by boat, and we got thoroughly soaked by a tropical rain storm on our way back.
