Allison’s Bat Mitzvah – South Burlington, Vermont

October 22nd, 2010

I photographed Allison’s Bat Mitzvah a few weeks ago in South Burlington, Vermont.  I took some pictures at Temple Sinai in the morning before the ceremony (no photography allowed during the ceremony), and then returned to photograph the reception that night at Vermont National Country Club.

Many of Allison’s family, friends and neighbors came out to celebrate that evening.  There was plenty of energy on the dance floor before, during, and after dinner and the DJ Mike from (what company?  help me out in the comments?) worked as hard as I have ever seen a DJ work to keep the young people entertained.  There were contests, party hats, silly sunglasses, glow sticks, hula hoops, and giant feet.   Definitely a lot of fun moments to photograph!

Business Names in Ghana

October 14th, 2010

It was about a year ago that my wife Leah and I were on our way to Ghana.  If you are new to my blog, take a look at my posts from that trip.  In addition to the wonderful custom painted designs for businesses, the names of the businesses have a style of their own in Ghana.  They always made us smile if not even laugh out loud!  These businesses are often in sheds or under open wooden structures and will sell anything that you could ever need.  We have a few photos, but there were many more that we saw on rides throughout the country that we could not photograph.  We started taking notes in the back of our guide book and complied a list of our favorites:

After traveling in Ghana for four weeks I was thinking of renaming my business.  We spent some time thinking about names and the runners up were:  Sweet Dr. Jesus Godly Photography by Michael Tallman and Pray For His Divine Light Photography Enterprise.  After much thought we decided the web address would be a little too long and decided to stick with Michael Tallman Photography.

Lauren and Jordan’s Wedding – Shelburne, Vermont

October 12th, 2010

I was in Vermont again a few weeks ago to photograph Lauren and Jordan’s wedding at All Souls Interfaith Gathering in Shelburne.  Jordan started his day at a camp on Lake Champlain in nearby Charlotte while Lauren, her bridesmaids, and her family prepared for the wedding day at her family’s house in Shelburne.

The lawn behind All Souls has an amazing view of Lake Champlain and the Adirondack mountains, and the light for Lauren and Jordan’s first look was as good as it gets!

Lauren and Jordan read a few verses from Bob Dylan’s “The Wedding Song” for their vows, which brought Lauren to tears.

The complete set of Lauren and Jordan’s wedding photographs will be available for viewing and ordering prints soon.  You can sign up here to be notified by email when they are ready.

A Place To Bury Strangers at The Urban Lounge

October 7th, 2010

This is a band called A Place To Bury Strangers performing at The Urban Lounge in Salt Lake City, Utah.  They are not for all tastes, but if you like noise and distortion you might enjoy them.  They are also extremely loud and have been known to blow up PA systems at clubs.  Earplugs are mandatory.  The live show features lots of stuff that make them one of my favorite bands to photograph, such as smoke, strobe lights, and projections.
