The Ecstasy Of Coffee

September 24th, 2010

The pattern and shadows on this table at Divas Cupcakes and Coffee in Salt Lake City, Utah perfectly describe the feeling I get from a good cup of coffee!

Anne and Jake’s Wedding Celebration – Seattle, Washington

September 23rd, 2010

Anne and Jake eloped on the Hood Canal in Washington this past July in a private ceremony, and held a party for friends and family in Normandy Park, a suburb of Seattle.  Anne is the daughter of my mother’s cousin, which makes her my second cousin.  My earliest memories are of a trip my family took to Seattle and Vancouver to visit Anne’s family when I was about two or three (more specifically – I remember the Steam Clocks in Vancouver, BC).  My parents, sister, brother in law and niece Rylee were all at the party.

The celebration was catered by Anne’s former volleyball coach and English teacher John who now is the co-owner of St. Clouds restaurant.

Anne had a brunch with some of her girlfriends and sent them out into the Pike Place Market to buy the bouquets for the centerpieces.  That is my cute niece Rylee above right; she is excited to meet her cousin soon – Jake and Anne are expecting their first child in a few months!

Jake gave two really touching toasts; in the first he had something to say about every single person at the party.  The guests migrated out to the beach to watch a spectacular sunset which included pink clouds.  Jake’s second toast was all about Anne and was really sweet.

The complete set of Anne and Jake’s photographs will be available for viewing and ordering prints soon.  You can sign up here to be notified by email when they are ready.

Jennifer and Jeffrey’s Wedding – Silver Lake Lodge, Deer Valley, Utah

September 20th, 2010

Jen and Jeff live and work in New York but decided to have their wedding up in Park City, Utah at Deer Valley Resort.  Instead of taking a honeymoon right away, they spent the week in Park City and enjoyed the long weekend with friends and family up in the mountains.

Jen and Jeff wanted to do pictures with their wedding party up at the top of the mountain, so we all rode up the chairlift and endured the winds for a while.  I think it was worth it for the fun pictures but the hair was definitely blowing around!

The ceremony was held out on the new patio at the Silver Lake Lodge with music by guitarist Michael Lucarelli.  The floral arrangements are by La Fleur.

I love the combination of bridal veils and wind!

A cocktail hour followed the ceremony on the awning covered porch of the Silver Lake Lodge, followed by the reception inside the lodge.

The Sensations Soul Band provided the music for the ceremony, and I think they are one of the best wedding bands I’ve ever heard.

Jen and Jeff were sent off from the reception with sparklers at the end of the night.  They plan to take a proper honeymoon sometime in the near future, possibly to South Africa.

Big thank you to Erin Kate – I was lucky to have her there as my second shooter.

The complete set of Jen and Jeff’s wedding photographs will be available for viewing and ordering prints soon.  You can sign up here to be notified by email when they are ready.

Two More Cups Of Coffee

September 17th, 2010

If you’re starting to think that I might be obsessed with coffee, you’re absolutely right!  On the left is a cup from Blue Star Coffee in Winooski, Vermont, and on the right, from Cafe Tazza in Taos, New Mexico.

Espresso in Southern Africa

September 14th, 2010

I’m on a coffee kick – I try to find good coffee wherever I am.  On the left is an espresso I enjoyed in Mbabane, Swaziland and on the right is an espresso from Cafe Continental in Maputo, Mozambique.  Leah and I traveled to Swaziland, South Africa and Mozambique before I started this blog, so I don’t have many pictures from that trip here.  I may post more from that trip here soon, but you can see pictures and read about this trip at the blog we posted to while we were there: http://leahandmike.blogspot.com.
