Brian, Miki and I headed out to the Bonneville Salt Flats in western Utah for their engagement photos. This is definitely one of the most surreal landscapes I have ever seen! It seems like you can see the curvature of the earth here.
After the sun set, we got into our time machine (not pictured) and went vintage. The idea for these photos was inspired by Miki and Brian’s love of adventure travel. They have been all over the world together, including Peru, China, Australia, Nepal, India, and Malaysia to name a few stamps in their passports.
The camera that Brian is using is a working Zeiss Ikon 5″x7″ field camera, which belonged to my great, great uncle and was given to me by my grandparents. It is about eighty years old and in fantastic shape.
Miki and Brian would be able to find their way around a strange place in any century. They are planning a honeymoon in Turkey – just because it is at the top of the list! Instead of registering for salad tongs and avocado slicers, these explorers are asking their guests to pitch in for Kebabs in Istanbul and a Hot Air Balloon Ride over Cappadocia. (check out travelersjoy.com if you like this idea) I have a feeling that should the balloon stray off course and carry them thousands of miles off course they would take it in stride.
We ended the shoot with a lovely picnic in the fading light.
The pink blanket is a 2010 vintage, but I liked the color. Miki and Brian will be married at Red Butte Garden in Salt Lake City, Utah this August.
